Since 1992, TAMU's Bilingual Program has been vital in securing over 3 million dollars in Title VII federal grant monies to assist Aldine ISD with: parental programs, technology integration, teacher certification, master degrees and professional development.Workshop...
Another multi-faceted public school partnership is with Bryan ISD's Milam elementary school. Another 1.25 Million dollar Title VII grant was received to develop (in part) a parental program similar to that in Aldine. The program offers parents courses in GED in Spanish, ESL (English as a Second Language), Basic Technology (In Spanish), and Parenting Skills. Additionally, childcare is provided and all services are free.
An additional component of the program is to provide scholarships for early childhood coursework through Blinn Community College. The program sponsors the tuition & fees for 15 Blinn College students per year as they work toward early childhood bilingual generalist certification. Transferring from Blinn College to Texas A&M's teacher education program, we hope to have 75 new teachers in the pipeline from this one aspect of the grant projects.
