ESL Certification Prep Course

The Online ESL Certification Prep Course, offered by the Bilingual Education Program at Texas A&M University, can help you develop knowledge and skills for teaching English language learners (ELLs). Educators who participate in this continuing education course will increase their knowledge base for teaching ELLs and will learn to design effective instruction for ELLs. The 10-week online course provides comprehensive coverage of the teacher competencies tested on the TExES ESL Supplemental Examination (#154). Comparison of TESOL and TExES ESL Teacher Competency Standards with Texas A&M Online ESL Course Lesson Alignment Lesson topics include:

  • language acquisition theories
  • approaches and methods of second language teaching
  • instructional activities that promote English language development
  • assessment of ELLs

Cost & Payment Info

The ESL Certification Prep Course is $500. All certified Texas teachers receive a $300 scholarship toward that cost. Either the school district or the individual needs to pay the remaining $200 cost (course deposit). If paying as an individual, you may make two $100 installments (the first one is due by the tenth day of class, and the second $100 is due by the fifth day of the next month). Whoever pays the $200 will receive a reimbursement after the teacher completes the course, passes the TExES #154 exam, and adds the certification.
 
For districts paying for the ESL course:

  • The course may be paid for with a credit card online at the Texas A&M Marketplace: https://secure.touchnet.com/C21490_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=111. Select "Payment Installment for Online ESL/Bil Cert. Prep."  For each person enrolling, you will select a quantity of 2. Then click “Add to Cart,” and fill in the requested information. You will select “I am an administrator...”
  • Purchase orders may be used to pay for the course. They can be faxed to 979.458.0192, scanned and emailed to bilingualed@tamu.edu, or mailed to the address below:

For individuals paying for the ESL course:

  • To pay by e-check or credit card online, please go to the Texas A&M Marketplace: https://secure.touchnet.com/C21490_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=111.  The default quantity is 1. The course deposit is $200, so you will select a quantity of 2. If preferred, you may make two installments of $100 each. The first $100 is due on or before the tenth day of class. The second $100 installment is due on or before the fifth of the next month. Click “Add to Cart,” and fill in the requested information.
