Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Early Childhood Through Fourth Grade (EC-4) Bilingual Generalist Certification This 131 credit hours, undergraduate degree in the Department of Educational Psychology is designed to prepare teachers (Spanish/ English) to work with linguistically diverse children and their families. Undergraduate bilingual majors will develop strong knowledge and skills related to curriculum, content, and teaching/ assessment methodologies that will provide challenging educational experiences for all second language learners.

Students will take 47 hours of Core Curriculum, 24 hours of Education, 12 hours of Reading, 9 hours of Mathematics, 30 hours in area Specializations (Bilingual & Spanish) and 9 hours of miscellaneous program requirements. Students graduating from this program will be eligible for certification (after passing all state teacher EXCET exams) in bilingual (EC-4) and generalist (EC-4).

Due to the growing Spanish speaking population in Texas, bilingual teachers are in high demand. Currently, 97% of Texas' English Language Learners are Spanish speakers. In the 2000-2001 school year over 20% of the needed bilingual positions were left vacant. Furthermore, the bilingual teaching field is expected to remain in high demand based on Texas population trends. Come join us in this exciting and rewarding teaching field!
