The TAMU Online Bilingual Certification Prep Course consists of 15 learning modules. Twelve of the learning modules are organized around the domains and competencies tested on the TExES Bilingual Supplemental certification exams (#102 or #112). Each of the twelve Supplemental prep modules consists of a video lecture, readings in English and/or Spanish, short assignments to be posted within the course management system, a game for reinforcement, and a short quiz with feedback. The remaining three Language Proficiency prep modules are organized around the Texas Oral Proficiency Test (TOPT). The TOPT prep learning modules consist of oral and written prompts, test taking tips/strategies, and practice ideas.
The TAMU Online Bilingual Certification Prep Course is delivered to participants using the internet. Participants may access all course components from their homes or schools. Thus, no travel to College Station is necessary. Participants communicate with the instructor via electronic discussion boards, e-mail, and telephone. Furthermore, participants are not required to purchase any additional software to access the course.
The course is designed to be self-paced. Participants may complete the lessons independently at their convenience. However, the instructor guides the overall pace of the course by releasing lessons as indicated by the schedule on the syllabus. Participants are encouraged to keep up with weekly lessons so that they can participate fully in the online discussion boards.
Upon completion of the course, participants receive a certificate documenting 200 clock hours of professional development.
